NATIONAL LIPSTICK DAY!

Hey guys – did you know it’s national lipstick day?  Are you going to celebrate by purchasing a new tube?  Before you start stocking up on new colors for summer and fall, think about tossing your old ones first.  Did you know that lipstick is one of the most toxic makeup products on the market?  Most of them contain toxic heavy metals (even lead!) and they aren’t even required to list some of them on their ingredient list.  Crazy!  Below is a video, produced by Beautycounter, a chemical-safe, non-toxic company who’s mission is to get safe products into the hands of everyone.  Watch on to learn 5 things you didn’t know about lipstick!

DRUGSTORE ROUNDUP

Everyone loves a cheap buy.  Drugstores hold loads of treasures, but there’s a ton of crap out there and sometimes it can be overwhelming to know what’s worth it and what’s not.  I’m listing a few of my favorite drugstore products below that I buy nearly everytime I go.

Ardell Knot-Free Short Lashes – these little babies are the best individual lashes and look really natural.  You can add a few on the ends or put them all across the lid for more drama.  They are easier to apply then you think.  Watch me show you how to do it here.

Revlon-ColorBurst-Balm-Stain

Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain – These little guys come in a multitude of shades and give your lips a nice flush of color.500Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets – Especially great for summer’s warmer days and nights, these sheets instantly soak up any oil or sweat on the surface of the skin and are great to keep in your purse or desk drawer.450Swisspers Organic Cotton Rounds – I use these everyday to take off my eye makeup and for toner, nail polish, etc.  450-1Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps Pure-Castile Peppermint Soap – I have these in both bathrooms and under the sink for backup.  I’ve written this stuff up before because it’s a great multi-tasker from body wash to floor cleaner and even shampoo!  Plus the peppermint is cooling in the summer.

SULTRY SUMMER

When we think “summer”, everything from head to toe is  light, bright, and white.  And when it comes to makeup, rarely do we see anything dark (ok, except for eyeliner and maybe some bronzed skin).  One of the beauty trends for spring this year was the dark lip.  It was all over runways and red carpets, and it’s still a summer fave. Whether it’s black cherry, burgundy, or wine, a dark hue instantly makes a summery dress pop, and you’ll be a welcomed sight among all the coral and pink glosses.  It’s easier to pull off then you think, and can make your look more sophisticated.  Just keep the rest of your makeup simple by putting the focus on your sultry lips. I’ve rounded up a few of my faves from dark sheers to super pigmented “I’m going for it” lipsticks. So try incorporating one of these shades into your makeup routine to break the mold and do something bold!
